Karen loves the outdoors, more specifically, the Colorado mountains. That’s why she decided to have an intimate wedding in Black Hawk, CO. As I drove to the wedding, it was rainy and cloudy. I climbed steep dirt roads in my car until I reached the very tippy toppy of the mountain. The cabin that Karen and Derek rented had impressive views of the front range, even in the cloudy weather. Since their wedding was only immediate family, there was no rush to begin the ceremony. So, we waited until the rain passed before going out into the deck for the exchange of vows. The ceremony was lead by Karen’s brother. It was short, light-hearted, and full of love and laughs.
After the ceremony, the clouds began to break and the sun started to shine through. We took family photos amongst the yellowing fall trees before taking some gorgeous couple photos. The blue sky accented the fall colors, making everything pop! Just as we were ending photos, a bright rainbow appeared. Karen, who had lost her mother the week before her wedding, took it as a sign that her mother was with us. I think she was too. It was a magical way to end Karen and Derek’s perfect wedding day. They had the wedding they wanted, how they wanted. And that made it even more special to be a part of.
