You guys, blogging is hard! (Especially when life throws stuff at you like needing to replace your sewer line!). But I promise to be more vigilant on posting new content from here on out 🙂
At the beginning of the year, I entered 50 photos into a world-wide photography contest. Desmond and Audrey’s wedding was such a fairytale, I ended up entering several photos from their wedding day. Much to my surprise, one of their couple portraits landed in spot #99 our of 36,983 images in it’s category “The Wedding Couple”!
I didn’t formally meet Audrey and Desmond until their wedding day. Since they live in San Fransisco, we chatted over the phone and had a FaceTime call a few weeks before the big day. Even though we didn’t get to meet in-person, I felt a genuine connection to these two. Since the wedding was so epic, they decided to have a second photographer come help me out. I recruited my husband (who started in photography before I even owned a camera!). It was so great to have him along for an amazing wedding day!
September in Colorado is one of my favorite months because it’s colorful and the days are warm (for the most part). Not only were we graced with the beauty of golden yellow aspens, but we also got every single season included in one day! From sun and bright puffy clouds, to rain, sleet and snow, back to bright sunny skies – it was a true Colorado fall day. After an epic ceremony and portraits at the top of Aspen Mountain, we took the gondola back down the mountain and walked to the reception location, The Hotel Jerome (https://hoteljerome.aubergeresorts.com/). If you ever get a chance to go inside this hotel, DO IT! It’s so beautiful and eclectic – a photographers dream 🙂
A big gorgeous ballroom was setup with elegant centerpieces. As guests entered, Desmond and Audrey’s live band got the party started! Later on, we took a break with the bridal party to capture a vision Audrey and Desmond had. They wanted an “Annie Leibovitz style” photo in the lobby of the hotel. As a photographer, nothing is more intimidating then trying to produce an image that stands up to one of your idols. Some deep breaths and a pep talk from my husband gave me the confidence to try it out. And BOY WAS IT WORTH IT!! By pushing myself out of my comfort zone, I produced one my all time favorite bridal part images!
Enjoy the photos from Desmond and Audrey’s classy wedding in Aspen and check out which of their images placed highest in the contest!
With love,
Soleil
